Fort Dix, Browns Mills NJ
Fort Dix, Browns Mills NJ.
If you were from the Burg area there was a good chance
you knew some couples who met while on leave in Trenton
from Fort Dix. I have read on the net of 3 clubs where
Fort Dix soldiers would go in Trenton in the 1940's: The
Pirate Ship, The Herby Derby, and Murphys.

They also went to the Pig&Whistle in Browns Mills...played there with a group regularly in the early 60's.
And they went to the Carlo Rossi's World Famous Satellite Lounge.
IIRC, many soldiers and airmen went to many of the clubs in downtown Trenton. They got off the bus at W. State and Montgomery St., where there was a USO trailer parked on the sidewalk. I recall seeing many uniforms back in the day.
When on shore liberty, I did the same in Providence and Boston while in the Navy back in the late 60s.
At least in Trenton, there weren't as many seedy bars as you'll find in immediate proximity to the base perimeter. Wrightstown was a rather interesting place back then. ;-)
The Cove in Trenton was one of those bars frequented by military..also the Neon down the street from the Cove.
I played with a group Peter's Surprise the house band at the Satallite for 2 years...what a fun time!!
