Calabria, Italy

Many Burg folks family came from the Calabria region of Italy.
It is located furthest south on the Italian mainland.
Across the Straights of Messina is Sicily.
Calabria had about 1.5 million people around 1900 when
many of the Burg folks families began coming. It has
2 million people now in 2009. According to a few websites
I have read Calabrias economy has improved quite nicely
since the 1970s due to more modern farming methods and
tourism:)

The scenery is butaful. I always wanted to say it that way.
Roe wants to visit Sicily some day, along with Naples and Capri. Maybe one day we'll take a Mediterrean Cruise.

My cousins live in at town called San Dominica which is right below the resort town of Tropea in Calabria. Spent 10 days with them 2 years ago and had opportunity to drive down to Reggio and take ferry over to Sicily. Breathtaking!

An old Calabria story told to me.
A 7 year old Burg boy visiting relatives in Calabria was sold a
gun by a local merchant.
His mother went to that store and
read the merchant the Riot Act,
Burg Style.
Now its 40 years later.
But...If he is still in business, he may STILL look around at times to make sure she isnt there:)))

Both my mom and dad's families are from Calabria. Boy, I guess I'm a real hard head.
