Another Immaculate Conception Building Rear View, The Burg

Another Immaculate Conception Building, Rear View,
The Burg. I took this picture from Immaculate's Parking
Lot. I do not know what this building was.

Mack,

This was one of the buidlings that was part of Trenton Catholic HS until it closed in June 1962. Today, on his website, Tom Glover added a graphic of tickets for Christmas midnight mass (from the 1940s) which includes a picture of Immaculate Conception Church. This building does not appear in that picture. In front of this building was a memorial to Trenton Catholic HS grads who had lost their lives in WWII. I imagine that this addition to the high school was built in the late 40s. It was while passing that memorial one day on my way to school or church in the late 50s that it dawned on me that WWII was not some ancient conflict but that it had taken place slightly more than a decade earlier. I also believe that this is the facility that IC Grammar School relocated to in the 80s or 90s. Barb P may know for sure, but this also may have been where Trenton Tech had its facilities. The part of the complex on the far right of the photo (kind of "L" shaped) was where the gymnasium was located as well as the cafeteria. I think there was a pool over in that section also. During the summer of 1965 I worked at Immaculate throughout the whole complex cutting grass, setting up for and cleaning up after Thursday night bingo, etc. I may have even snuck in a dip in the TC pool when it got real hot.

This became IC grammer school in Sept. 1972. I graduated 6th grade at Washington ES in June 72. When I started 7th grade the following September, it was the 1st year the scool was in this building.

The swimming pool was in the basement at the bottom of the steps you see on the right. The coverd it over and turned the room into a community room, I think they put a trap door and ladder in so they could use it for storage too.

I often wonder if the magnificent trophy case that was filled to capacity with awards won by the legendary Trenton Catholic teams of the past are still in the hallway by the gym.

I also spent a few early teen summers in the dunk tank that was positioned right in the middle of the photo during the carnivals. They would play Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass records all night and Mr. Falchi would be plugging away on the microphone selling 50/50's and keeping us up to date on how much was in the pot. Every time I hear Herb Alpert's version of "A Taste of Honey" I smile and remember...

Yup exactly right. I started at the other school blg right down the street and than we switched to the trenton catholic bldg in the 70's. I graduated from 8th grade in 1976. The other bldg became the Sister Georgine learning center for the mentally handicapped. We had recess in that parking lot. I loved that carnival in the summer. My mother worked the pizzelle stand every night. One night she won the fifty fifty that Mr Falchi called out and bought me a brand new blke. Gosh what wonderful memories.
