A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

Would pass this corner on one of the many alternative routes between my house on Revere and Immaculate Conception School. Would frequently come across an older man rather shabbily dressed in this area who always seemed to be in a hurry. Only knew him by the name of Jules and he would always say "Aren't you one of those Himes(sp?) kids?" I would cut through Trenton Catholic HS campus (IC Church pakring lot on Sundays) to get to the old ICS building. Looks like the former cigar factory building at College and Division in the distance in the photo.
Hi Stephen. Everybody knew Jules back then. He was always dressed in a suit and tie, but shabbily, as you say. Pockets full of stuff too. Eccentric, antic, probably nuts, but harmless. His stock phrase was "Yanks are hot. Yanks are hot" whether they had won the day before or not. Everybody knew him, but I'm not sure anybody where he went or how he lived. A mystery.
Btw -- We passed to
ICS through the parking lot too.
Best, Ed
Stephen (Higham, see I remember), do you remember when the parking lot at the rear of Trenton Catholic was a garden area? The priests would walk slowly thru the garden area while praying. It was so peaceful, it was hard to believe it was in the middle of the city. The priests would let us in the garden area when we were helping to clean the TC "A" building each spring.
Jules was always at Wetzle Field looking for loose change under the bleachers. Harmless guy though.
I remember the garden, but wasn't it was behind the rectory and next to the convent? A secluded oasis behind that masonry wall.
