The Steel Pier in Atlantic City was known to many
Burg folks. There was a TV music show from the Steel
Pier on Saturday afternoons back in my Burg day too :)
Joe Z points out the host of that show was Ed Hurst.

Rosemary use to go the show and dance, it was Ed Hurst.
I think prior to Ed Hurst at Steel Pier may have been the Tony Grant Show. A variety show featuring local talent.
IN THE EARLIEST YEARS OF "SUMMERTIME ON THE PIER," THE MC'S WERE GRADY AND HURST. I REMEMBER IT WELL. THEY WERE A POPULAR AND TALENTED DUO.

The show was called - Tony Grant's Stars of Tomorrow....four shows a day! And don't forget the Diving Horse at the end of the pier. One price...all kinds of things to see and do! I saw Frank there with my parents in the late 40's.
My Family and I were on the Steel pier on VJ Day 1945.we were in the movie .they stopped the show and made the announcement. That place went wild.
Boardwalk was filled with military men going nuts. at that time the Chalfont- Hadden hall hotel was a military hospital. Now it's Resorts

Some Burg folks just told me
they remember the smell of peanuts
near the Steel Pier and they remember Jim O Brien doing a show
from there as they were walking
by.
OBrien hosted a mid-day show on WFIL-AM and did the weather-thing on WPVI-TV channel 6 out of Philly.
The peanut smell came from Planter's Peanuts across from the Pier...big old Mr Peanut standing outside waving you in..if the smell wasn't enough. I was addicted to cashews..hot and salty..sorta' like the Jersey babes I knew from "down the shore"!!
Sax, remember the Taylor Pork Roll stand, had to have one every time we went there when I was a kid. They were on that belt with the flames making them nice and hot.
Where are the Shill rolling chairs? You sat in a little car and paid to get pushed down the boardwalk.
the carts are still running, sjbill...now taking folks from one casino to another.
Early morning meal, JoeZ....pork roll, cheese on a hard roll..sometimes threw in an egg...great breakfast after a night of...whatever in Atlantic City!
The last thing I had on the boardwalk was wings, at Hooters, 1999. Maybe I do recall the carts -- not sure.
Yeah, I had Pork Roll, too. MMMM.
OK guys, I had Taylor's for breakfast, yesterday.
In San Jose.
Two slices, real thick, real dark around the edges. Some scrambled eggs on top. Some cheddar cheese melted in.
Did I mention that order of 12 pounds of Taylor's came in? ;-)

Loved it there, the long ride with the guys and girls was all wroth it. Loved to dance, see the shows, diving horse and the bell. This is one of the mermories that never die. Saw so many stars, sang all the way home.
