Independence Mall, 2496 South Broad Street, Hamilton.
Its now named Independence Plaza.
The Theatre was once an Eric Twin and was its own
free standing building. The new Theatre is Destinta and
is part of the Mall itself.
Stores from back in the day: Dawnson's, Big C, Murphy's,
Dunham's, Thrift Drug, Lombardo Music.
There was a fountain with a pretzel/hot dog place near it
and I have forgotten its name. There was a pizza place too
and I have forgotten that.
Big C had the 45 RPM Record of the week for 69 cents back in
the 70s day..Ooga Chakka !
Murphy's had a place to eat and good cheap toys and fish food.
Dawsons had Charlie Brown Books & MAD Magazine !
The places that are still here from those days are Wig A Doo
and Rayco.

Wasn't this mall built on the site of Vic Rice's driving range? Next to the high tension towers?
Mack: The pizza place was called Pizza City.
Yes, this is where Vic Rice's range was. There was also a drive-in, drive-up hamburger place at one time. Don't remember if it was a car hop place...sorta' on the order of the Broken Drum in Ewing.
I remember pretty good hotdogs at that food drive-in. place. Yellow mustart and chopped onions. There was also some "Tassty Freeze" kind of place next to it? It had the big soft ice cream piles made out of concrete.
SJBILL...are you talking about the little stand that was right next to the custard place...had benches in the front?
I'm talking about a bigger drive-in type place that might have been there before vic rice's range...late 40's early 50's???
When I was learning how to drive, we used to go to the side of the mall, where I think it was Keats Ford would park the new cars before they were detailed. My dad made me back into the empty parking spots, between the new cars...No pressure there.
There was the frozen custard stand and hot dogs/hamburgers called Gravatts. I used to work at Dawsons. My boss, the owner, was named Ray Kay.
I worked at Dunhams and Thrift drug store when I was a kid. There was also a ceramic store that moved in next to the pizza shop. There was a grocery store there too!
The food store was Pantry Pride.
Also, there was a soda fountain in Thrift Drugs.
Anyone remember Trebor Drive near the Mall? All of those houses were demolished in the late 1960's
I remember the neighborhood near the mall. They tore down the houses for the I-95 interstate to run thru. The streets and streetlights were left there for years, and it was eerie, not to mention sad, to derive thru. Like a little Chernobyl. TheEric theatre sat right where the interstate runs now too. I miss the pretzel and pop corn stand. They always had it decorated nice for Xmas too. The Big C was a great place for discounted stuff, an early Big Lots, if you will. Independence Mall made do until Quakerbridge came along. Tghey don't build mall that close to downtown anymore i guess.

Yeah....those houses were only about ten years old when they were ripped down. The street was vacant until the mid 80's!
I don’t think they tore them down. I believe they actually moved them. I knew someone that lived there, and they moved the house somewhere in Bordentown.
No, it was called Pizza Delight. Played Donkey Kong and Pac Man in there everyday.
There was a bakery called Sugar and Spice and next door was a children's store. I remember buying an Italian-made sweater dress for my niece 50 years ago. Oh what memories. My mother and I use to spend so much time there.
Also going down Lalor street, remember Lesko's tomato pies and further down the roller skating rink where everyone went on Sat. and Sun afternoons.
