Mack,

I'm thinking that this was the main entrance to Trenton Catholic before it closed in 1962. Facing the entrance to the church this building was on the left where Mott meets Chestnut. The Immaculate Conception school I attended was to the right of the church where Swan met Chestnut. I believe sometime in the 1970s or 1980s the classroom may have been relocated from the original school building to the old Trenton Catholic building.

Thank You Stephen I will note this.

I likewise think this was Trenton Catholic but am not 100% sure.

Anybody go to the Trenton Catholic dances? Remember the nuns with the rulers? Jimmy Parsons spinning the discs? All the big hits from WAAT 1300 -- the station that turned off at sunset every day?

The big tune in 63 was The Bristol Stomp. There were also the slow tunes by the Paragons and the Jesters. The slow tunes were dangerous -- that's when the rulers came out.

Attended those dances regularly. Learned to blow smoke through my nose in front of the building to impress the girls... Jimmy Parsons could also sing. Sounded like Vaughn Monroe

My father had his school Trenton Technical Institute in the old Trenton Catholic Building for 7 years. He had a 100 year, hand shake, lease agreement, with Bishop Ahr. After a full renovation costing tens of thousands of dollars, the Bishop told us to get out, he needed it for "church purposes". It sat vacant for many years, then he moved Immaculate Grammar School into the building. Trenton Tech was in there long enough to fix up the building for the Diocese.

I too spent many Fridays at the TC dances. Jimmy Parsons was spinning my records that he and Blavat borrowed and never returned.

Barb P,
Did a Mr. Midura work for your Dad?

There was a Mr Midura who worked for him. All of his instructors owned their own businesses or were retired from private industry. Don't remember what he taught, but I remember the name, as Bobby Midura was a friend of mine, but no relation.

Tom Midura, his son, and I graduated from THS together. He was the alto player in my Red Band in 1961.

Gee, you guys went to the dance and forgot to pick me up!!!!..I missed this post and Joe was telling me about it. The first thing I said was how the bathrooms were downstairs and you can hear the stomping from the Bristol Stomp!!..too funny!!..I actually had to 'lie' about my age to get in there..lol..It's not like they asked for ID like they would today..lol..I remember falling over nuts for a guy who looked like Troy Donahue wearing a tan jacket with no collar..melt my heart..lol.

Rosemary...When I was in 7-8th grade, I saw Fr Carmelus every morning at Mass. He was the "bouncer" at the TC dances... didn't get in unless you walked by him. Every Friday I'd walk right by him into the dance, he never said a word, just nodded. Guess he knew we would dance so much, we'd be too tired to get in trouble.

When we lived on Mott St. (right near the corner of Chestnut)we would sit on the front porch and watch the guys coming out of Trenton Catholic. What a site to behold. School girl crushes.
