A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

Please note: My grandparents, Julia and Joseph Pecsics began this grocery store in 1926. Prior to 1926, the building served as a bakery based on the pastry skills acquired while being employed by the Union Hotel in Lambertville. The deli was continud by my parents Julia and Herman Hammerschmidt Sr until about 1970. Not only did this community staple provide food items to the people in the neighborhood but also provided credit and charity to the neighbors when they were down on their luck. Herman Sr and Julia have passed away and the building was sold in 2000.
Also, known within the "Burg" is Herman Hammerschmidt Sr family. Herman Sr's grandmother was a Nickold. She was a well known mid-wife in the area. It is rumored that she delivered over 1,000 babies.
