There was a family that had a small butcher shop here back in the 50s. Not sure of the name, but they were Hungarian -- might have been a Bodnar relation.

They built a good sized smoke house in the back of the property out of cinder block and made pretty good kolbasz -- not as good as Varga or Tindik, or oven Spike Thomas, around the corner on Genessee St. We were particular.

They were the first to use an imported cash register, made by Brother. Everybody else in the area was still using the big nickel plated National Cash registers. ;-)

The beige colored house on the left was the home of the Turgeons. The father was Turgeon-bachi, and the mom was Turgeon-naynie, to me. (Please forgive my improper spelling!)

I believe Mr. Turgeon used to work for Roebling's and had the classic black painted metal lunch box.

They had daughters that were very good friends of my Mom and Dad.

Wonderful folks!

OK, reallllly good! ;-) An incredible list!

I remember the Lajty family, next to Glibas at 803. They had a daughter whose name I have forgetten.

"Lolly" and Olga Turjan were the daughters. Wonderful folks!

Vince Messzaros moved into our old home at 809. He came to the US from Hungary in about '56.

Bob and Helen Burke were our next door neighbors. That home was occupied by the Claytons before them. Frankie Clayton was a bit older than me and could really throw stones.

Mike and Helen Miloszar were next. Mike was a retired police officer. Helen had a beautiful back garden with trees and shrubs. She was the cook on the block by which all others were judged. She made incredible chicken soup with chickens form Chambersburg Poultry Market. I have her nut roll recipe!

Olga Head was a Pulaski descendant. I believe she had three children -- two daughters and a son, Arthur.

Mal and Margie Giufrede were next. I'm not sure, but Mal may have been a cabbie. Realy nice folks.

Didn't the Toth's live at 821? Gilbert / Geza Toth played trombone in the Jr 4 band.

The Fantauzos! I forgot about them entirely! I think Mr. Fantauzo was a builder.

Pearl and Joe Pfaff lived in the home originally owned her father, Mr. Ernie. Pearlie was a very sweet person. Joe was wonderful as well. They had two sons: Bill and Bob. Bob is/was a police officer in Forked River. You may have known their cousin, Judy Pfaff, who attended Franklin School. She was a lovely girl/woman. After going through school I worked with her at Western Electric Engineering Research Center in Hopewell.

The Sabos had two sons: George and Mike. Mike was a fireman who worked in that beautiful firehouse by Chestnut Park and the one up the street just past Beatty.

Joe Bodnar was partners with his brothers in the gas Amoco station at Clinton and Hudson.

Joe Persico was a cabbie. His daughter Joyce was a reporter for the Trentonian like forever.

You forgot the Kovaches that owned Mercer Confectionary, and the Kollatches that owned Clinton Hardware.

Across the street, Jimmy Szathmary gave me my first haircut. He used to listen to Bernie Kosnoski on the radio.

Q. How'd I do, from memory? ;-)
