2-8 North Broad Street, Downtown Trenton.
This was once Yards's Department Store according to
my records. Burg folks from before my Burg day
mention this often enough to include it here:)
A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

In its earlier days, this was Trenton City Hall.
Yes:)
Thanks Joe B:)
there where 2 entrances...one on Broad and one on State.
Saxman: I don't recall two entrances to Yards Dept Store only the entrance on N. Broad St. The 5 & 10 Cent Store on E. State St had two entrances one one E State and the other on S. Broad. The entrance on S. Broad was close to the Capital Theatre.
Sorry about that I think I meant Dunham's department store.
The 5&10 was Kresges or Woolworths..always got the two mixed-up. My sister Ermie worked at the hot dog stand in the 5&10 next to the Capitol theater.
Yes, Dunhams's had two entrances one on N. Broad St and the Other on E. State St. Does anyone remember when Sears was in the alley off Haonover St.?
Dunhams also had a 3rd entrance on Hanover, across from the Camelia Restaurant. There was also a Chinese Restaurant there in the early 60's, very exotic, as there weren't any Chinese Restaurants around at the time. Used to go eat there with my mom after she was done work at Dunhams. Sax...Kresges had the entrance next to the Capital Theatre, used to love their hot dogs and root beer.
Oh yeah, walk up the stairs and the hot dog stand was right there on the left-hand side. My sister Ermie always took care of me at lunch time when I worked in town.
There were different ceilings in hte two sections. My Mom went to Yard's all the time.
When I grew older, I sold American Legion Post 93 poppies on the corner of State and Broad.
