Don't know why they named a park in S Trenton for Pat (Patsy) Pone who lived on Genesee near Roebling in the Burg? He used to come out and open up the fire hydrants for us kids in the summer, so we didn't do it ourselves. Nice man.
Always knew it as Chestnut Park..great dances on Friday nights in the Summer. Walked from home on Beatty down Home Ave and cut through a yard 2 doors down from Chambersburg Diary to get to the park.
Sax...when I was a yon' teen, my mom wouldn't let me go to Chestnut Park, said the So Trenton boys were "roughnecks". Now that I'm an old head, sorry I didn't go.
The ultimate Jersey-bad-boys where born and raised in South Trenton!
I know, I've been married to one for 38 Years.
Dances on Friday nights during the Summer late 50's..won a dance contest with Mary Jane Bodnar who lived on Elm St..Rockin' Robin was the song!
Used to play basketball 24-7 in Chestnut Park, then to eddy kay's for tomato pies. Pie & 2 cokes for $1.00. Or to the Burg dairy run by vic Opalski. The park also had a pool in the summer.
Once they took out the courts and put the bushes in the drug dealing blood sucking gangs moved it.
Patsy Pone was a dear friend of the family, Barb.
I have Mr's Pone's gnocci board after all these years.
Remember the black suits? All the time?
