1063 South Broad Street, The Burg.
Once upon a time this was Marsh Hobby Shop.
A place where I bought model cars and planes and
things long ago:)
A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

Mack...bought many model car kits there myself. Next door was Bob Cottrel's Getty station, where I used to pump gas for extra money. He said he always had extra business because back then, nobody ever saw a girl pumping gas.
I still have airplane and war-ship models that I built from kits I bought at Marsh's. Fond memories of saving, saving coins to buy a model (sometimes with my parents help) and then spending hours putting them together. Remember the trains in the window...and the large double-winged airplane hanging there?
YES I remember the trains and the
airplane in the window:)
I was good at putting models together...but no so good at painting them to look like they did on the box, but they looked
good anyway.. I took "artistic license" on the painting:)
Is that the same Bob Cottrel who, along with his brothers, purchased Choquette's Tavern at Hamilton and Franklin and operated it in the 70's & 80's?
Hi Stephen...Bob's brother Dale (who had the gas station at Broad and Federal) and his other brother Dick (who had the gas station on Nottingham near Grayson, bought Choquette's. When Dale's son Hunter died of leukemia, he sold his half out to other brother Barry. Dick later bought Taylors "Half Way House" on Rt 539 on the way to the shore and named it "Hunters" after his son. There were 6 Cottrel brothers and all but Barry, the baby, had a gas station. Wonderful family, great guys. Went to Immaculate with Joe Choquette, he and Danny DeCore from Commonwealth were best friends, both are lawyers, but may be retired.

My parents and the Choquettes were good friends and were frequent visitors to our home. Joe and Dan DeCore were a few years older than me. Went to ICS and St. Anthony's HS with Denny DeCore. Just saw him 2 months ago at 40th reunion. In summer 1969 rode with Joe Choquette to summer job at county roads building on Perry. While I was in the Air Force Edgar sold bar to Cottrel brothers. My brother bartended for them on weekends in early-mid seventies and other family members were patrons.
Stephen...my husband and I were in Choquettes with 6 other friends having dinner, the night the Phillies won the World Series. I had a radio hooked to my skirt and an earphone hidden by my hair. When they won, I jumped up from the table and screamed (Ok, we Phillies Phans don't get to do this enough and don't handle it like Yankee fans). Good thing they knew me...and were Phillies Phans too. My husband was mortified...'cause he's a Yankee fan.

I presume you're talking about the 1980 World Series and not the 2008 World Series that the Phillies won. It's entirely possible that one or more members of my family was in Choquette's also. Before moving to Delaware in 1975, I would frequently be at Choquette's to watch sports programs on the weekend. A number of my siblings did the same.
I never walksed home from Jr 4 without looking at the American Flyer train layouts in Marsh's Hobby Shop. I bought old model airplanes and a Gilbert Chemistry Set there.
Mr. Marsh also repaired Singer Sewing Machines.

Yes WG I rememeber something about sewing machines here too:)
My family used to watch Mr Marsh walk to Jake's Restaurant every evening to get dinner. On days I was home from school it was breakfast, lunch and dinner. My mom used to say Mrs Marsh had the kitchen removed to put in the Hobby Shop. Not much variety. Mack...how about a picture of old Jake's Restaurant, it's next to the parking lot (that used to be the Working Mans Store) at Broad & Liberty, across from the Bank driveway @ Broad. Spent lots of nickles there on Bubble Gum with Baseball Cards and Comic Books.
