Mary and Carl's on Beatty St. and Home Ave. Still remember going in and buying penny candy and even stuff for my grandmother. Carl made a good vanilla milkshake.

Does anyone remember the store on the corner of Emory and Whittaker? I only lived a few doors away and remember going in there, but that was a loooooong time ago...lol..Mid to late 50's would be the time frame.

Mack, not sure if it went by an Emory Ave address or Whittaker since the steps to go up were 'cornered'. I lived on Emory and it was on the same block where I lived.

It was called Nardi's Bakery and was owned by Tommy Nardi. They had really good donuts and ice cream. He was a friend of my Father.

Thank you anonymous. The sources
I have not always correct (still
pretty good however). They had
Nardi as a barber:)

Your welcome, Mack, glad I could help. I'm a little older than you so if you are not sure about some of the 50 and 60's info post it on and maybe I can help. If not, I could ask my sister.

Hey Joey Z....did you know my mom and dad owned Carl's store in the middle to late forties?

Paul: Did not know that, I alway knew it as Carl and Mary's. I can still remember playing numbers for my Grandmother there.

How about Willie's on Emory Ave. He was a friend of my Dad and he use to take my sister and me there for ice cream. Got my first taste of chocolate marshmellow ice cream there. It's still my fav. flavor and it's hard to find.

My bad. Beatty and home was a store where I bought comic books inm the mid 60's.

Beatty and Home intersect - candy store on one corner (we owned it in the 1940'a), Hungarian Reform church on the other, old Roebling School turned into Boys Club turned into drug-pusher/user park, on the other and a business storehouse on the other corner. we lived at 607 Beatty after selling the store.
