Is this the real burg or the perceived burg. Only about 3 of these schools are in the burg. Some are south trenton, some villa park and some hamilton, ewing lawrence etc.
The key isnt physical attachment
to the Burg. Many many Burg kids
went to St Anthonys/MCorriston.
and lived in the Burg. Thus
its a Burg item. Get it?
Further note: This could be a time
sensitive item. My Burg is mostly
70s80s. Maybe few Burg Kids attended StAnthonys/McCorriston
and other schools in earlier years.
But they sure went there in big numbers in my times:)
Mike:)
Mike, I went to school in the 50, 60 and 70's. Like me, most of my school years were outside the limits of the 'berg', but once a 'berger bit' always a 'berger bit'. I did not take offense to that title..lol..We were cool, we were hip. We knew the lastest dances and wore the newest hair styles...lol..Even after moving out of the 'berg', I, like many of those who moved to the township, had routes in the berg. Most of my friends were still in the berg. I could go on and on, but I'm sure you see where I'm coming from. :)
I guess I'm hungry..I spelled burg, berg through out my post..lol..
Guess I better call it a night...my spelling is really bad tonight..ummm routes is suppose to be roots...duh...
Exactly Rosemary :)
If I had said The University
of Nebraskra for example, maybe
1 or 2 kids from the Burg might
have gone there and thus it really
isnt a Burg item. But St Anthonys/McCorriston ? Tons of
Burg kids went there!!!!
Mike :)
PS: No spelling police on here
or I would be in trouble too :))
When I went to highschool all the kids from the Burg went to Cathedral High School alond with the South trenton Kids. We all rode the public busses with the workers. (Broad St & Center Street)
My Mom went to Cathedral :)))
I was in last graduating class in 1972, then they shut the doors. Most kids went to St. Anthonys(McCorristin), some to notre Dame and some to trenton High. highschool cost $250.00 tuition then. I think 2nd kid half price.
What about St. Stanislaus. We had some very good basketball teams in the late 60's. great rivalry with St. Mary's & Holy cross. Blessed Sacrament and St. stevens and Immaculate also.
Thank You I will add those
to the post:)
Mike
First school I attended - Roebling School on Beatty St (later became a Boy's Club) when it closed we went to Harrison School on Genessee St.
Nobody has mentioned Sports Nite at Trenton High. I was a Black Team cheer leader in 1962. Black Team lost that year.
Mack: I would like to see some pictures posted on the late 1950 and early 1960 Trenton Catholic Basketball Teams. I use to listen to the games on WBUD with Bus Saidt as the play by play man.
Sorry I posted the request on the Trenton Catholic Teams. Some how the old Anonymous appeared.
For Trenton Catholic Basketball
I have looked around a bit and there isnt much I am finding.
But TOM GLOVER ,who inspired
this blog, is on my bloglist
and attended Trenton Catholic.
He is your man for this.
Toms site is by far the best one
I have ever seen for the history
of the area. Check it out and ask him for stuff on this:)
OK........now let's talk real basketball....as in THS basketball team 1960-61 NJ State Champions with a 24-0 record!!
Remember some of the names - George Lee, Tal Brody, Ted Ganges,
Jim Crowell, Buddy Shaw, Sam Norman, Coach Fred Price...and how about a 'Burg guy on JV..Joe Chiarello !
Mack - Spoke with Tom twice on the subject, no luck so far.
Look on classmates.com for
Trenton Catholic. Its a pay site
but you can see classmates names
for free and see discussions about
old times for free:)
If you have never been to that site
itsa hoot :)
Mack
Fred Price was one of my fav teachers and fun. Ran into him and his wife at one of our family functions a few years ago. Invited by my cousin. It was good to see him.
Mack, If you need Trenton Catholic Basketball stuff, my old scrapbook is loaded with it. Kids from Immaculate used to go on the bus trips with the team. Fr Clarence and the Golden Wave (WOW..sounds like the name of a 60's band). We were there for most of the ESCIT games and when they wone it all. Have all the news clippings. Also some clippings when the Schroths won. Dave will give you my #, just call. Anonymous..I graduated Immaculate in 1962 the year TC closed, Cathedral was full, so Immaculate kids had to go to St Anthonys in the Township.
Barb: Great, thanks for the info on those pictures and news articles, if someone could post them would be great. Thanks. I wanted to go to Catholic but with the closing we had to go to Notre Dame instead.
Mack..My father owned Trenton Technical Institute for 47 years. Many of our students came from the Burg (and of course Sax, from So Trenton). Trenton Tech was in the old Trenton Catholic building for 10 years.
