Liby's, agreat place to "hang" out at. Great juke box and pinball machines. Good food also. Libby and Henry Renzi were great people.
PS, I'm talking about the early 50s.

Hey...how about Sam's Tomatoe Pies on South Broad St across from the firehouse....or Sanders on Broad and Beatty Sts...or how about a great Sunday dinner at LaGondola on Roebling Ave??
Di Lorenzo's on Hudson-Best pies. Eddy Kay's-Grand & Chestnut-cheap good pies-Large & 2 Coke's- $1.00
Joe's Pizza also on Clinton Ave. after a Cathedral High Basketball Game.
Old Burg Dairy on Home Ave. for great Ice Cream.
Del Rio's on a friday for Delmonico steaks. Hamilton Ave. marucas Pizza on Olden Ave. Rat's Diner. Philip Arthurs on Broad for Ice cream, Stoppers at Casino Hot Dogs,Used to be an old pizza place on lamberton St. by the river, we used to call it Dirty bills, had good food. Trenton's and the Burg's all about eating. De Lorenzos on Hudson,Rossi's-best burgers.
Nate's on Lamberton St...Felix's on Genessee St (great burgers - Felix used to be a Trenton cop)..
Trionfetti's on Roebling Ave..Clin-Mott Tavern...Tony Diamonds on Roebling Ave(?)...Widow's Watch on Broad and Liberty...and Lanzi's Tavern on Liberty...now that's a great opening for another topic...Richie Cole world-class alto saxman!!
I remember Nates on Lalor Steet. When we moved from the Burg, we moved to Marshall Avenue, one block over from the place. Pratico jewerls was in the basement. I remember going to Nates and getting a pizza, with my girlfriends for $.99..lol..and I think that came with a soda..lol..
Hey Saxman
I remember going to Sam's Tomato Pies with Lou and my cousin Tommy on Friday nights. Great pie nice crispy crust and picking a soda out of the ice. Think a large pie cost around $1.50 or so.
Does anyone remember the Homestead Inn on Kuser Rd. Not the Burg but really good Italian food. They didn't even have a menu, but the food was the best.
B
Right by the Italian American Sportsman's Club.
How about Arthur Treachers Fish on So. Broad St.
SC
How about downtown...Commini's..Neon Bar..LaVerne's....Casa Lido...Mayfair...Toddle House
How about the Famous Restaurant at State and Montgomery. It used to be the DMV annex for the night shift.
Any "old timers" remember whe there was a Horn & Hardart cafeteria downtown on State St..same building as Arthur Murray dance studio??..
Wow...Pauie...We're older than I thought, I remember both. And Yard's on State and Broad and the Old Record Gallery on Broad and Front St. (remember the creepy guy that ran the place, was it Harry)?
Corner of State and Broad, across from the RKO Capitol..Hot dog place with counters..fully open to the street..Natick's?..Nadick's??..
anyone old enough to remember?
Barb: I remember the record place also, the guy was really skinny and watched your every move. Best part of downtown was smelling the Mr. Peanut Store aroma. My uncle Ed worked at Sears before he died, he did all the window decorations for the store. That was the good days of Trenton downtown.
OK..I'm old enought..I'll fess up Paulie...it was Nedick's. Anybody remember the Taylor Pork Roll place, a few doors off State & Broad? They had Pina Colada soda, thought that was so exotic when I was 12. Joe Z...and Mr. Peanut handing out peanuts. My mom worked at Nevius-Voorhees for years, got the decorator christmas trees from the window display, still put them up in my house during the holidays-Still classy. Speaking of Voorhees, I used to ring the Salvation Army bell at christmas in front of Voorhees for the Trenton Lions...did it for 3 years. Town ws so beautiful back then at Christmas..all the stores decorated, decorations on the street lights, church bells, Santa on the fire engine. Now all we have is a MALL, wow.
How true Barb, Trenton back than reminds me of scenes from the Christmas Story with Little Ralphie. Roe and I are always trying to remember the stores they had downtown. I remember catching the bus at Beatty and Broad heading to town and then on State and Broad to catch the Brunswick Ave. bus back home. Use to go down near the monument to a men's shop to buy the High Boy collar shirts, can't remember that store's name. They had every color you wanted.
think it was the Eaton Shop, Joey.
How about during Halloween when all the store windows where painted by school kids...I helped do one on the old Stern's building on Broad.
My sister Ermie worked at the hot dog counter in Kreske's...right inside the Broad St entrance..you could also enter on State St. Good place for me for lunch when I worked for the State....!
Not exactly the burg, downtown Trenton, The Warren restaurant, used to skip class at Cathedral high and used to go and eat & play pinball. the older women Lena and the owner alex used to hide us in the back when sister was coming to bust us. HaHa. also the Texas Weiner Place down the street. I rememver Horn & hardarts with the spinning doors. also used to skip school and go to the Mayfair and Trent to catch afternoon movies.
Anyone remember the thanksgiving day parades when santa used to ride the fire truck and climb into the store windows. a department store, can'r remember the name. maybe Litz
The department store was originally Swern & Company, Lit Brothers took over the store in the late 40's and kept the Thanksgiving parade tradition with Santa climbing the fire truck ladder to Lits Toyland. On the opposite side of E Front on Broad was Stern's department store and across the street on the corner of Livingston & Broad was a pharmacy..can't remember the name. Also, the santa sleigh was housed in a building, with glass window front, around S Clinton/Chambers & Lily St.
